{ New theme :: Shortbread month }

To always have a cookie jar filled to the brim with a selection of homemade treats (….or at the very least, some pre-prepared dough in the freezer ready to bake a tray of cookies at a moment’s notice….!), is a priority in the Mélanger kitchen.
A small baked indulgence can sometimes serve to nourish and soothe, or (between you and me!) simply be enjoyed as a petite, sweet treat anytime.
Last Christmas, my baking plan included a selection of shortbread. Flavoured. Filled. Fancy.
My plans changed, as some of you may remember, and my baking efforts needed to be put on hold last festive season. But my urge to whip up a few different batches of buttery goodness did not wane.
So perhaps in (early) preparation for Christmas this year, I am going to fulfil my old baking plan and load up the kitchen with a few pounds of butter, sugar and flour for Shortbread month.
(Oh, and as it is almost half way through the month, I better get a wriggle on!)

I totally love that idea, as I am a huge fan of shortbread, too. Last one I baked was with dried lavender in it, which was lovely.
I’m looking forward to your creations.
Gotta love shortbreads! I am so looking forward to seeing your posts.
Chers,
Rosa
I love shortbread. I am testing cookie recipes for Christmas and I made my first pecan shortbread cookies, delicious!
Can’t wait to see your selection.
AWESOME! I bought some fancy-pants butter recently that I’ve been dying to use for shortbread but I don’t want to be too boring with it. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
ooh, another excellent theme ! so true that you can do 101 things with shortbread. and so true that my cookie jar here is *never* empty either ! (right now, there are mini palmiers). looking forward to seeing the varieties you pick. i love espresso chocolate chip shortbread or even shortbread made with olive oil…
ok, i definitely think it’s time for another batch of these: http://mykugelhopf.ch/2010/10/tahini-date-shortbread/
It’s a very timely choice of theme – I look forward to it.
Ahh, my favorite cookie. And no one knows how to spice things up like you do – a few of your prior shortbread recipes come to mind;)
Looking forward to seeing you wriggle your way around the shortbread world !
Ah, Julia, I have so much of your blog to catch up! But I love the shortbread theme – perfect for an afternoon snack with a hot cup of coffee and even better to put into a pretty tin and give as holiday gifts. I just hope you have something chocolate on your list! xo
pecan shortbread cookies sounds great Laura
Great minds, I guess! I was experimenting just this summer (U.S. summer) with how to use the “savory” herbs in my garden in cookies. I found that both rosemary and sage can really enhance doughs with apricots, raisins, dried cranberries and nuts. Love your pic, too–very enticing.
